Study with Claude or ChatGPT
Connect the AI you already use to Termspring and it works from your plan, notes, flashcards and weak spots, with Termspring’s study method: questions before explanations, hints one step at a time. What you do in the chat lands back in Termspring.
Before you start
- Connecting AI apps is part of Termspring Plus and Max.
- You sign in with your Termspring account. Termspring never sees your Claude or ChatGPT password, and they never see yours.
- Set it up on a computer if you can. Once connected, it works in the apps on your phone too.
https://www.termspring.com/mcpOpening the address in a browser shows an error (401): it only answers apps you’ve signed in. That’s expected.
Connect Claude
Open Claude’s connector settings
- In Claude’s Connectors page, choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Termspring and paste the connector address. Leave the advanced settings as they are.
- Choose Add, then Connect, and sign in to Termspring.
- Keep “Save what you do in the chat” ticked and choose Allow.
- Start a new chat. Termspring shows under Connectors in the chat’s + menu.
Works on Claude’s Free plan (one custom connector), and once added on the web it works in the desktop and phone apps too.
Connect ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT’s connector settings
- In ChatGPT’s Plugins page, choose +, then Add custom MCP server. If there’s no option to add one, turn on Developer mode under Settings › Plugins › Advanced first.
- Name it Termspring and paste the connector address as the server URL. Authentication: OAuth.
- Review ChatGPT’s warning, confirm, then create it.
- Sign in to Termspring, keep “Save what you do in the chat” ticked and choose Allow.
- In a new chat, open + and switch Termspring on.
Adding a server by address needs ChatGPT’s developer mode, which some ChatGPT plans don’t offer yet. Set it up on chatgpt.com, not the phone app.
Connect Claude Code
Run this once in a terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code and sign in to Termspring.
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http termspring https://www.termspring.com/mcpYour first chat
Start a new chat with Termspring switched on and paste this. It checks the connection, then runs your next planned study block.
Termspring is connected. Call termspring_overview and tell me in two lines what you can see: today's date, my modules, and whether you can save. Then run my next planned study block with termspring_study_brief, one step at a time. Ask me before you tell me, give hints one rung at a time, and ask how sure I am before any answer is revealed. Tick the steps off with termspring_session_step as we go, and at the end save what else we did with termspring_record_study.
What it can do
- Read your plan, modules, notes, due cards, questions and weak spots, so it can quiz you on what you need.
- Save study results straight to Termspring, so your memory map and plan stay current. You can undo any of them in Settings › AI apps.
- Draft flashcards, tasks and worksheets. They wait in your AI inbox until you approve them.
- Never write or finish graded coursework, and never help with a module whose AI level you’ve set to none.
Settings › AI apps shows every app you’ve connected and what each one did, and the AI-use log there helps you write an acknowledgement for coursework. The privacy notice says what is shared and kept.
If something goes wrong
- The sign-in page says the link has expired: start Connect again in Claude or ChatGPT.
- The AI says plan_required: the connector is part of Plus and Max. You can upgrade in Termspring’s Settings.
- The AI says study_without_ai: Study without AI is on in Termspring’s Settings, and your data stays in Termspring until you turn it off.
- The tools don’t appear: start a new chat, and check Termspring is switched on in the chat’s + menu.
- ChatGPT has no way to add a server: your ChatGPT plan may not offer developer mode yet. Claude works on every plan, including Free.
To disconnect, open Termspring › Settings › AI apps and choose Disconnect. It stops at once. Still stuck? Write to hello@termspring.com.
